Modular Cleanroom Solution for Titanium Welding in Singapore

Precision Environmental Control for Titanium Welding

Titanium welding demands strict control of temperature, humidity, and airborne contamination. Even minor environmental fluctuations can increase the risk of oxidation, embrittlement, or weld defects.

To meet these process requirements, Airkey designed an ISO Class 7 modular cleanroom for a titanium welding project in Singapore. The solution combines factory-prefabricated construction, a dedicated HVAC system, optimized material flow, and ISO 14644-compliant performance to support precision welding operations.

Engineering Challenges

Titanium welding is highly sensitive to moisture and airborne contaminants. Stable temperature and humidity, efficient material transfer, and contamination control are essential for maintaining weld quality and reducing production risks.

Airkey Engineering Solution

Integrated HVAC and Prefabricated Construction

Airkey developed a modular cleanroom with a dedicated HVAC system to maintain 20–24°C and 30–50% RH, creating a controlled environment for titanium welding. All modules were prefabricated and installed on site within one week.

Flush-Mounted Return Air System

A customized return air wall replaces traditional return air columns, increasing usable floor space while improving airflow efficiency and simplifying cleaning.

Optimized Material Handling

An extended material airlock (MAL) and a large rapid roll-up door accommodate long titanium workpieces, enabling efficient material transfer while minimizing contamination risks.

Personnel Flow Management

Separate entry and exit gowning rooms, together with an air shower, establish controlled personnel flow and reduce the introduction of contaminants into the welding area.

Factory Testing and International Compliance

The cleanroom was preassembled and tested at Airkey's factory before shipment to verify compliance with international standards, including ISO 14644.

By integrating precision environmental control with modular construction, Airkey helped the customer improve production efficiency, contamination control, and installation speed.

FAQ

Why does titanium welding require a cleanroom?

Titanium is highly reactive at elevated temperatures. Controlling airborne particles, temperature, and humidity helps reduce oxidation and welding defects.

What temperature and humidity are maintained?

The HVAC system is designed to maintain 20–24°C and 30–50% relative humidity for stable welding conditions.

How long did installation take?

Because the cleanroom was factory-prefabricated, on-site installation was completed in approximately one week.
